Gastronomía
Today, my Spanish teacher, Mr. Schroeder, took advantage of the special block scheduling today, in order to offer our class a taste test of Spanish food — gastronomía — as he put it. He brought several delicious foods to class, including:
- las mejillones — mussels, which I didn’t care to try;
- las aceitunas (las olivias) — Spanish olives, which I devoured and couldn’t get enough of;
- un bagette — French baguettes, except that these were the scrawniest, hardest baguettes I have ever tried (and I’ve tried a lot, because French bread is at the heart of Vietnamese food);
- kikos —
corn nuts
, he called them, which were okay; - choriza — Spanish sausage, which I didn’t get a chance to try;
- salchichón — Spanish beef jerky, which I couldn’t get to, because of the crowd;
- jamón — Spanish salami, which I didn’t have time to get to, because I was busy gulping down olives; and
- agua — a nice, cool cup of water to wash it all down.
Delicioso! Well, Chris, I guess Mr. Shroeder’s great, after all.
